For mountain gorillas, size matters, but so does personality. Our almost 60 years of research has shown that while female gorillas prefer larger silverbacks to lead their families, they are also drawn to calm and stable silverbacks. And here is where it gets really interesting: the combined factors of male leadership styles and female attraction contribute to unique and incredibly diverse group dynamics.
